Click on the Katchall File Cabinet in the Taskbar.  (This can be found on the lower right side of the screen, near the system clock).

* Archive Configuration :

The Archive Configuration controls which files are archived when they are modified. Katchall Archive comes pre-configured with a set of defaults But you will need to modify these settings if the files you work with are not in this list.

The Configuration definition is in two steps. 1st specify which directories to ignore. Then in the remaining directories on your computer, specify which files to include.

Configuration also defines the response of the system if the archive for a particular file grows beyond a certain size. Katchall Archive handles this by informing you of this occurance, and then it discards older archive records to allow space for newer ones. This is called "truncation". You can configure Katchall Archive to do this quietly for any particular group of files. Archive Configuration is activated by clicking the Archive Configuration button on the “Katchall License and Configuration Information” dialog.

The “Katchall Archive file capture definition” is a series of tabs. "Exclusion Specifications" define what directories to ignore, and the special case of ignoring a file given its name and extension. "Include Files" lets you define what to Include. "Truncate files" lets you define the quiet response to an archive truncations. "Archive config,misc let you define where the archive is stored on your computer.

The first 3 tabs work in about the same fashion. There are radio buttons that select the type of specification, and is reflected in the first column of the listbox. The second column just reminds you which page of the tabs you are on. The third column indicates the text or value for this action. Look at the default settings for examples of each type of exclusion rule.

File Specification.

1.) “File Name”:
A file will be specified by its filename. A filename is both the “name” and the “extension”. This rule specification can be found on all the tabs.  Its meaning depends on the page where the rule is found.

2.) “Path Component”
A directory will be specified based on a path component. If a file’s path has this name as part of its directory, then it will be excluded.

3.) “Path Root”:

A directory will be excluded if it starts with a particular directory path.

4.) “Extension”:
In a non-excluded directory, a file will be included if it ends with a particular extension.

The rule values are not case sensitive DontArchiveMe.doc is the same as dontarchiveme.DOC or DoNoTaRcHiVeMe.DoC.

To add an archive configuration rule:

1.) Select file specification type with the radio buttons.
2.) Enter the appropriate text in the edit box.
4.) Click the “Add to list” button.

To edit rule:

1.) Click on the desired item to edit in the list box.
2.) Click the “Edit item” button
3.) Make the appropriate changes to the item with the radio buttons and by editing the text.
4.) Click “Add Item”.

To remove an item from the exclusion:
1.) Click on the desired item to edit in the list box.

The Katchall Archive Repository
On the Misc tab is an edit control that indicates where the root of the Katchall Archive is located. You can change this, to another location if you need to. The new location will not take effect until the computer is rebooted.

* Activity Monitor

The Activity Monitor is activated by clicking the “Activity Monitor” button on the “Katchall License and Configuration Information” dialog.
The Activity Monitor shows you 3 things.

1.) The files that have been selected for archiving, but that have not been processed.
2.) The last file that was archived
3.) The number of files that have been archived since the last boot up.

Normally you only see files listed in the “Ready for archiving” list box if there is a large amount of work for Katchall to do. This can happen if a big file is being processed and other files get queued, or if a large number of files are queued up at the same time.

The “Archive in progress” field will show a file name when the processing for that file actually starts. The filename will remain in that field until it is replaced by another filename.

The “Enable logging” button turns on logging. The log file is named Katchall.log and can be found in the program files directory “C:\program files\InventThings\Katchall Archive ”
